Earth to Everybody: Israel Killing Civilians Including Children

Freedom Rider posted this photo of Palestinians killed by Israelis, in part to point out that one of them is a very small child.  A woman, maybe the child’s mother, is in the background, in agony.

In a related post which everyone should read, (then again, I think everybody should read  Freedom Rider every single day), she writes:

Is the pro-Israel lobby powerful? Is the Pope Catholic? …

No, all neo-cons aren’t Jews, but they all believe that Israel should be the only military power in the Middle East. They all believe that Iranians should be killed to make sure that Israel remains the only nuclear kid on the block.

The Presbyterians wimped out by saying that relations with Jews were damaged. Well, if Jews insist on equating opposition to Israeli policy with anti-Semitism, then their feelings will always be hurt by those who refuse to toe the line. Too bad for them.

American Christians should not follow the Presbyterian example. We are not Cossacks or brown shirts and we shouldn’t be cowed because of unfair accusations of anti-Semitism. The Presbyterians have proved to be a great disappointment to the fight for human rights.

What will they say about the Israeli army using civilians as human shields? What will they say about bull dozed homes? Of course they will say nothing. The namby pamby statement to “invest only in peaceful pursuits” is a cop out. Israel’s abuse of human rights is not unique, but its role in American government and civic life is unique, and that makes it reasonable for the Presbyterian church or any other organization to single out its actions.

  1. Who is serving whose interest: is America serving Israel or is Israel serving America? In the long run, America and Israel will reliaze that justice prevails and always wins!

  2. Well, earth to everybody, Palestinian Terrorist groups also Killing Civilians Including Children. It does not help this horrible situation in the Mid-East to paint a one-sided picture when this simply is NOT the case.

  3. Yeah, Jeyoani, very true– the point of this post, though, was that the United States is supporting Israel, whereas we do not support Palestine. U.S. support is hugely powerful and meaningful.  There is also the possibility, as Freedom Rider says, that we will make war on Iran just to make sure our friend, Israel, is the only Middle Eastern power with nuclear capabilities.  I don’t hear much about  any of this in the U.S. press– I think the coverage is very much one-sided in favor of Israel.  I am always looking to see what is happening to the women and children in these wars and conflicts.  This is where Women in Black have played such an important role, calling attention to the atrocities on both sides.  This is something the U.S. mainstream media does not do so well.
