Do Right Do Right Do Right

Children of Luz Maria Franco Fierros

Ms Jared at Sinister Girl was in my head this morning when she blogged about Blanca Anel Leyva Franco (far left in the photo), daughter of Luz Maria Franco Fierros, whom I blogged about recently.   Blanca’s mother was a Mexican woman who was here in the United States working three jobs (at Wendy’s, at Taco Bell, and selling corn out of the back of her truck) hoping to save enough money to add shingles to the roof and wood to the frame of the home she had lovingly built for her children over 15 years as a single mom.  She was dragged a mile to her death in late September by a “boyfriend.”  Blanca has been commenting to the thread I started here and salty and Professor Zero have been translating.

You can read about Franco Fierros’ life and activism here and can make donations in her name, Luz Maria Franco Fierros, at any Wells Fargo Bank.  In so doing, you can help to continue Franco Fierros’ dreams for her family and community.

Thanks, Ms Jared, for writing about this and for not minding my sort of borrowing your blog post title. 🙂

  5. Hi Heart,

Here’s Google translate of the first one:

They say that a year is not a century, but from that 18 of September, it has seemed it.

That day, I let exist Light Maria Franco Iron, woman of fight, woman whom looking for the American dream, the aim of its stay in this world found.

The sky of Chilpancingo even cries by its absence and, that to say of its family, that it cries out to shouts, because a all this outside badly dream. Stars shine each night, remembering that brilliance of his green eyes and like not to remember it, if it were only that they had, next to the character and the fight of his noble mother to leave already ahead in this one our difficult country… Mexico.

Each tear spilled by its children day after day, from that imborrable date, shouts and cries out by justice, a justice that to hundreds, thousands of kilometers it perhaps tries to arrive at the hearts of the cut so that it is made enough, although neither with all those tears nor yet the suffered pain, will be able to return of the sky to that noble woman.

A year already has happened and have changed many things, but not the picture neither the flowers, nor the prayers, nor the memories. Those take very inside of the heart and like not doing it, if Light Maria gave its life, in exchange for looking for the well-being of their children and are they, those that request by their rest and to satiate a little that interminable pain.

Light Maria, was its name and goes that it fit, Because Maria is the name of our mother and also of the mother of God, the one well to him that at these difficult moments has guided them and it has helped them to calm the pain. The other is Light, as it went it for his children, when guiding them by the way of the good and to illuminate that way to live with dignity, as she always dreamed it.

Each star of the sky, is a tear spilled by the pain its absence, each song of a bird, is for her an oration. It will always live in our hearts.

To year of his absence always him will remember, like mother which it always fought against any storm, to the woman who with her efforts, looked for the happiness, of each one of his children and to live with dignity.

A year has happened and we do not want that they pass more, without justice becomes, without letting rest it.

Duer to me calm Maria, to duer to me and rests already, takes care of from the sky to your children and guíalos with the divine light… That light that nor with your death has managed to extinguish.

    Rest peacefully

  6. And here’s the second one. I think it lost something in the translation.

    ————————–

against the account destined to where they became the operations for donation in favor of our family it was sacked by a type becoming to pass through nephew of my breast frank light Maria.

  7. Thanks, Mary. Can someone try to translate the lines in Mary’s last comment more clearly?

  10. I’d be so grateful if someone could translate Blanca Franco’s recent comments.

  11. Roughly,

“Thanks to this web for serving us against all the horrible things that happen in our society.

“How can I submit Luz Maria’s photograph, so that everyone knows her? I hope you all can help me.”

    Posted by justicewalks | September 10, 2007, 10:33 am
  12. Here’s my translation of that second post:

The story ends where donation operations were made on account of our family being taken by a sort making himself out to be a nephew of my mom Luz Maria Franco.

You should also know that the long translation is pretty bad as well. Let me know if you need me to fix the google translation on that one.

  13. “Thank you for this website, it helps us greatly with all the horrible things happening in our society. Is there a way I can put up Luz Maria’s photo, so everyone may know her face? I hope you all can help me.”

  14. i can have a go at her previous comments later today, if that would be helpful.

  15. Hey, thanks, justicewalks and ladoctorita, much appreciated. If either of you (or anyone else!) has time to do a more proper translation later, that would be great. It sounds like Blanca wrote an eloquent tribute to her mom which I would like to turn into a blog post, especially if we can get her mom’s photo scanned in somehow.

Can one of you ask in Spanish if she has a way to get her mom’s photo scanned in? Maybe one of you could give her instructions as to how to send it to me?

And also, can one of you say that if someone posing as a family member stole the money donated to her

    :::::::::::::::::RAGE:::::::::::::::::

Wells Fargo has to make that right because that was fraud. ALL of that money was to go to the children of Luz Maria Franco Fierros. I sure would like to help her sort this out.

Geezus, why entertain any hopes in humanity given what men are capable of at times!

  16. oops, justicewalks beat me too it.

however, i would interpret comment #3 differently:

“la cuenta destinada a donde se hicieron las operaciones para donacion a favor de nuestra familia fue saqueada por un tipo haciendose pasar por sobrino de mi mama luz maria franco.”

    i would interpret as:

“the account that was set aside for transactions to make donations for our family was taken by somebody pretending to be my mother’s nephew.”

sounds like it was in reference to heart’s post about making donations to the family, and somebody pretending to be a family member stole the donations.😦

  17. drat, i keep submitting my comments too late!

i could email her about the photo and ask her to email it to you.

  18. Thanks, ladoctorita. DAMN that person.

I would sure like to learn more about this, see if something can be done. If some asshole stole that money, Wells Fargo, again, has to make good on it. Certainly they should have, bare minimum, required identification for funds held for the family!

They say that a year is not a century, but since that 18th of September, it has seemed that way.

That day, Luz María Franco Fierro stopped existing. A fighter, a woman seeking the American dream, reached the end of her stay on this earth.

The sky of Chilpancingo weeps for her absence, and wants to tell her family, as they cry out to the heavens, that it was all just a bad dream. The stars shine every night, reminiscent of the shine of her green eyes, remembering the character of our noble mother and her struggle succeed in this, our difficult country . . . Mexico.

Every tear shed by her children, day after day, since that unforgettable date, screams and cries out for justice—a justice that hundreds, perhaps thousands, of kilometers away tries to touch the heart of the court and inspire the legal system to do the right thing. But all our tears, all the pain we have suffered, cannot bring that noble woman back from heaven.

One year has passed and many things have changed—but not the portrait, not the flowers, not the prayers, not the memories. We carry these remembrances in our hearts. Luz María gave her life seeking to secure the wellbeing of her children, and it is those children who ask now that she be allowed to rest and that some small part of our endless pain be relieved.

Her name was Luz María, and it suited her. María was the name of our mother and also of the mother of God, the woman who in these difficult moments has guided us and helped us to soothe the pain. Her other name was Luz, which means “light,” and that is what she was for her children. She guided us on the right path and lighted the way for us to live with dignity, as she had always dreamed.

Every star in the sky is a tear shed for the pain of her absence. Every bird’s song is a prayer for her. She will always live in our hearts.

After one year of absence she is remembered, as the mother who always fought against any storm she faced, as the woman who put all her strength into finding happiness for her children and living with dignity.

A year has passed, and we do not want any more to pass without justice being served and our mother being allowed to rest in peace.

Sleep peacefully, María. Sleep and rest now. Care for your children from your place in heaven, and guide them with divine light . . . the light that not even your death could extinguish.

    Rest in peace.
