Ms Jared at Sinister Girl was in my head this morning when she blogged about Blanca Anel Leyva Franco (far left in the photo), daughter of Luz Maria Franco Fierros, whom I blogged about recently. Blanca’s mother was a Mexican woman who was here in the United States working three jobs (at Wendy’s, at Taco Bell, and selling corn out of the back of her truck) hoping to save enough money to add shingles to the roof and wood to the frame of the home she had lovingly built for her children over 15 years as a single mom. She was dragged a mile to her death in late September by a “boyfriend.” Blanca has been commenting to the thread I started here and salty and Professor Zero have been translating.
You can read about Franco Fierros’ life and activism here and can make donations in her name, Luz Maria Franco Fierros, at any Wells Fargo Bank. In so doing, you can help to continue Franco Fierros’ dreams for her family and community.
Thanks, Ms Jared, for writing about this and for not minding my sort of borrowing your blog post title. 🙂
