Last Friday night Fox television host Bill O’Reilly, interviewing Kansas Attorney General Phil Kline, said he had access to information on women’s and girls’ medical records which show that doctor George Tiller performs abortions when girls and women are depressed, an act O’Reilly called “executing babies.” O’Reilly also said his show had evidence that Dr. Tiller’s and another clinic had broken Kansas law by failing to report potential child rapes of girls 10 to 15 who had obtained abortions.
Kline has waged a two-year battle to obtain abortion records from Jones’ clinic under the aegis of gathering evidence to investigate potential rapes and incest and to prosecute illegal late term abortions. Under Kansas law, late term abortions may be performed only to protect the mother’s life or if continuing the pregnancy would cause the mother “substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function.”
Kline, one of the nation’s most noted abortion opponents, received redacted (edited so patients could not be identified) copies of 90 patient records from the district court on October 24. The clinics had fought the request for the records citing patient confidentiality.
Clinic attorneys were outraged over the fact that Attorney General Kline did not ask O’Reilly how he knew what the patient records said. Kline has insisted patient records would be kept private. Clinic attorneys said they will seek the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Kline, saying, “Our worst nightmare has happened.”
In sum: the Kansas attorney general subpoenaed private abortion records, including records of girls 10 to 15 , and received them on the basis that they may include “evidence of crimes.” Now the contents of those records have been leaked to O’Reilly, who has begun to broadcast what he knows on his national television program.
If that is not male terrorism of girls and women, tell me what it is.
