Cleric: “Women Should Wear Chastity Belts to Prevent Rape”

A Malaysian cleric has suggested that all women should be fitted with chastity belts as a deterrent to rape and incest, a news report said Friday.

Abu Hassan Al-Hafiz, an influential cleric from the northeastern Terengganu state, said that women were most safe from sexual predators if they donned some form of barrier to their sexual organs.

‘We have even come across a number of unusual sex cases, where even senior citizens and children are not spared. The best way to avert sex perpetrators is to wear protection,’ Abu Hassan said in a sermon late Thursday, quoted by the Star daily.

‘My intention is not to offend women but to safeguard them from sex maniacs. Besides, husbands could also feel more secure, if you know what I mean.’

  1. Chastity belts, of course! Now why didn’t the silly feminists think of that?

  2. Or, since it’s men that cause a vast majority of the problems I think it might make the whole world safer if we keep them locked up.

    Makes just as much sense.

  3. Well, thank you (not) for the visual of males, (who on average think of a sex act every 10 seconds), running around with stiffies, going ‘Ping’, ‘Ping’ as they ram against the metal of a chastity belt.

On a serious note, again, there is absolutely zero effort on the part of males to address rape, why they rape and male determined action to monitor each other, train those born male to , hmm, what, not rape? That’s just for starters.

When does the mascunist (for those that don’t get it right away, feminine / femi-nist, masculine / mascu-nist) movement begin, when do men, in revolution gather to end rape, violence and oppression? When does the mascunist say enough is enough, that ‘boys will be boys’ is not an excuse for poor behavior?

    Oh wait…

The onus is always on the female to live in terror and protect herself. Those born male, with invisible privilege are just too comfortable, hence, no real reason to move outside of the power over position.

But, but, but, you just can’t go controlling the sexual behavior of men and treating their genitals like property to be guarded at all cost. *dripping sarcasm*

  5. I liked the capper at the end: Besides, husbands could also feel more secure, if you know what I mean.

Keep your merchandise in the best condition, gentlemen, to ensure longer use!

  6. As deterrents go, I would, myself, much rather prefer a machine gun to a chastity belt.

  8. I’ll bring the ammo Bea!😉

This ‘advice’ is once again putting the onus onto women/girls, the victims of male violence and male sexual violence, to solve the problem.

Has it ever been suggested that a male chastity belt be invented? All men should be fitted with one from birth, and women-only to be in possession of the keys. This is probably only fair, as men claim that Peter Penis has ‘a mind of its own’. Clearly, these penis owners cannot control their charges, so I think it only right that we ‘help’ them. Or perhaps, surgically remove the ‘errant part’?

As for the cleric’s *nudge-nudge, wink-wink* ‘side benefits’ – the first bullet will have your name on it.

Is it me, or is there a bit of a trend with male religious nutters [oops, I mean leaders]? First we are uncovered pieces of meat, now we must don medieval contraptions?

  9. As if sex offenders wouldn’t just pry it open with a crowbar, pfft!

  10. Right. And when do they invent muzzles that keep all women’s mouths closed at all times so no one forces them to give oral? And no one say any *winkwinkbenifitsnudgenudge* comments to that please.

To me, it (locking men up) actually makes sense, if the alternative is what I read here day in and day out.

  13. If you can believe it, a female politician in Holland advocated that it would be beneficial for prostitutes to be sent abroad for ‘extra benefits’ to ‘help the troops relax’ Now I would have found this a terrifying suggestion from anyone but from a woman politician? Well there you go!

“A top female politician in Holland wants Dutch prostitutes sent abroad with the troops to help them relax.
Annemarie Jorritsma, a politician for the centre-right People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and the mayor of the town of Almere, went on national Dutch TV to demand the ‘extra benefits’ for soldiers”

  15. KUALA LUMPUR: A day after creating an uproar among women across the country, a well-respected Islamic religious figure said that his comments on chastity belts for women was just a joke.

Joke aje. It was not seriously meant,” said Datuk Abu Hassan Din Al-Hafiz yesterday.

Newspapers had carried reports yesterday that Abu Hassan, a well known ulama, had said women should wear chastity belts to thwart rape and incest and “to protect themselves from sex maniacs”.

At a Maal Hijrah forum in Kampung Pelandan, Hulu Terengganu, Abu Hassan had told the audience that “the best way for women to avert sex perpetrators is to wear protection”.

He also said that while his intention was not to offend women, by wearing chastity belts, husbands could also feel more secure, adding “if you know what I mean”.

However, he changed his tune yesterday and said his comments at the forum were not meant to be a suggestion.

“It’s not practical to wear a chastity belt in this day and age. It can’t be done.”

In an immediate response to yesterday’s news reports, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil said the government was not interested in an idea from the pre-Islamic age of “jahiliyah” (ignorance).

She said it was more important for Muslims to have a stronger faith.

“It is better to have a steel-like iman (faith) rather than wearing the belt. If a person is bent on doing it (rape), he would find a way to do it even if one’s whole body is covered with metal,” she said.

Jemaah Islah Malaysia chief Dr Harlina Halizah Siraj said it was an insensitive suggestion.

“The comment was very much outdated. We have to change the mindset that any violence against women is caused by women themselves.”

She also hoped Abu Hassan would withdraw his statement and apologise to the public.

Malacca Islamic religious department enforcement head Rahimin Bani said wearing chastity belts to prevent rape was not the right way.

“If the rapist already has the intention to do it, he will do whatever it takes to do it.”

Such a comment seems to imply that women want to permit the rape and therefore have to be constrained, said Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism vice-president Harcharan Singh.

“Why blame the women?” he asked.

Women’s organisations also felt Abu Hassan had indirectly insulted the male gender.

“His comment gives an impression that all men are beasts of passion,” said Women’s Aid Organisation executive director Ivy Josiah.

Such sexist comments from influential leaders shows the need for gender desensitisation programmes, she added.

Sisters in Islam (SIS) concurred with Josiah on Abu Hassan’s insult to men.

“We hope he realises that he is definitely insulting all men by suggesting women have to be restrained because men are incapable of controlling their lust,” SIS said in a Press statement.

“Why don’t these people suggest instead that the men wear chastity belts?” asked National Council of Women’s Organisation president Datuk Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahbudin

  17. HA HA,,,,,,here’s a thought….how about a chastity belt for all men who have this mind set alongside the perverts? Mr. Cleric, might you be first in line??? now how simple is that???? it could be attached at …..is coming of age really early enough?,,,,,only a permit and key can partially remove it…. expiry time/date will automate closure.

really I’m not a man hater,,,,there are good men out there and then there are others. its the others I’m talking about.

  18. Hate to tell you this but this cleric isn’t the only one ‘proposing’ such ludicrous suggestions,

there have been a few Catholics that have suggested the same–

but when a female condom with teeth was created in South Africa–the shit hit the fan,

i never saw so many men jump on a forum with all sorts of excuses as to why it was a bad idea…

    and they majority said,

“it would piss the man off and he would kill the woman in rage cuzz his little wee wee was all cut up”

well, I got a solution for That problem–put poison in those teeth in that condom and make it where there is a way womyn can expel them when not in use[without hurting themselves]

and so when mr rapist realizes the predictament he’s in–it will be too late–

he’ll be dead in about two minutes…

yea but seriously–ever notice its always what ‘womyn should do’

tell the clerics what–why don’t you take these rapists and in the town square–cut off their wee wee’s and give it a month–

THE RAPES WOULD GO DOWN AND MEN WOULD THINK TWICE–

see if they Really wanted to end rape–they could–but they don’t–

they just want to ‘protect the property’ of husbands

but now if the husband rapes a girl trafficked or tricked into being a ‘domestic servant’ or a ‘second, third, fourth child wife’ then

hey, thats o.k. the men go wink wink

screw that–I SAY, LORENNA BOBBIT STEP UP AND LETS START TRAINING SOME WOMYN SERIOUSLY…

EYE FOR AN EYE AND WHEN THAT IS APPLIED–TO RAPISTS–

THEN MEN WILL START TAKING WOMYN SERIOUSLY WHEN WE SAY–WE AIN’T PUTTING UP WITH THE SHIT NO MORE.

THINK THIS IS TERRIBLE–well LOOK at how the gov officials and police started changing their tune about rape,

when a region in India–womyn got FED UP AND TOOK MATTERS INTO THEIR OWN HANDS–

and they started going after these rapists and torching their houses and chasing these men to beat the hell out of them–womyn like in groups of fifty or more–

    didn’t take too long–about a month–all of a sudden BOOM–

rather than the dismissal and scoffing, MEN STARTED PAYING ATTENTION–LEADERS STARTED THINKING–MAYBE WE BETTER START CHANGING SOME LAWS

you know I got to hand it to those womyn in India–but is That what it takes–it to get So bad that womyn finally decide they really don’t have a choice but to stand up and violently????

My question is, why aren’t womyn crowding these military recruitment stations IN MASSES AND DEMANDING THESE BASTARDS IN THE MILITARY WHO ARE RAPING WITH IMPUNITY

BE DEALT WITH? AND EDUCATING WOMYN GOING INTO THE MILITARY ABOUT THE IMPUNITY OF RAPE IN OUR SERVICES?

WHY? I TRIED TO GET A PROTEST HERE AMONG ANTI-WAR–ITS LIKE WOMYN DIDN’T EVEN WANT TO TOUCH IT

WHAT? WOMYN’S LIVES AREN’T AS ‘WORTH MUCH”? WHAT IS IT?

    ARE WE THAT DAMN BRAINWASHED?

but oh, HEY WE HAVE WOMYN WHO WILL PRAISE THE SO CALLED FEMINIST RELIGIOUS FANATICS WHO WILL STRAP ON A BOMB FOR THE RACE? OR RELIGION? OR COUNTRY?

BUT DARE WOMYN RISE UP AND FIGHT FOR WOMYN?

its like the Iman in Australia that continues to spew the garbage that

the Australian womyn who are raped–are whores cuzz they aren’t covered—

they should take that sob and lynch his sorry ass…

    period.
