Ginmar:  Youre not my sister if you suck up to the patriarchy at my expense or the expense of other women

I’m sorry, I kind of want a refund if I have to accept as sisters women who deliberately cite conservatives or MRA fantasies about feminists in order to make them look like those pink sparkly Hello!Kitty feminists. I’m supposed to accept as ‘on my side’ somebody who airily says that she doesn’t think her husband’s penis is oppressing her, because that’s what the evil radfems say. Youre not my sister if you suck up to the patriarchy at my expense or the expense of other women….

Here’s some examples:

“I love pink and sparkly things, tee hee! I’m a bad feminist!”

“I love men! I’m a bad feminist!”

“You know, other feminists hate me because I love love love men and I suck cock whenever I get the chance! Look! There’s one now!”

“I love feminine things! I’m a bad feminist!”

You notice a trend here? At least the Ann Coulter-wannabees are intellectually honest: they’re conservatives, they’re wrong, that’s it. You can avoid them. I can say with reasonable certainty, though, that the so-called sisters kissing male ass—like there’s a shortage of that around—-are peddling a view of feminists that was created by and for men

Sokari on Oprah’s endorsement of “The Secret”

“The Secret”, written by Rhonda Byrne, espouses the pseudo-philosophy that thinking positively attracts positivity and thinking negatively attracts negativity. The book is based on the Law of Attraction and is touting the Law’s ability to make you rich, thin, successful, happy, not hungry, etc. You just need to visualize what you want and you will get it. And therein lies the problem.

As Birkenhead puts it, “Why ‘venality’? Because, with survivors of Auschwitz still alive, Oprah writes this about ‘The Secret’ on her Web site, “the energy you put into the world — both good and bad — is exactly what comes back to you. This means you create the circumstances of your life with the choices you make every day.” “Venality,” because Oprah, in the age of AIDS, is advertising a book that says, “You cannot ‘catch’ anything unless you think you can, and thinking you can is inviting it to you with your thought.” “Venality,” because Oprah, from a studio within walking distance of Chicago’s notorious Cabrini Green Projects, pitches a book that says, “The only reason any person does not have enough money is because they are blocking money from coming to them with their thoughts.”

Is Oprah really blaming the victims here? Is she really saying the folks of Cabrini Green Projects deserve to be there? By her endorsement of “The Secret” is she really saying the Cabrini Green residents are destined to live in abject poverty because they aren’t thinking positively? Is she really saying folks are poor, hungry, illiterate, victims of rape and genocide, because they’re not thinking positively? Or is she just lending her name to an unfortunately, wildly successful book of “anti-intellectual” snake oil?

Ann Bartow with Proof Positive that Derrida Was a Misogynist

According to multiple sources, Derrida wanted UCI to halt its investigation of a Russian studies professor, Dragan Kujundzic, who was accused of sexually harassing a 25-year-old female doctoral student. So he tried to use his archives as leverage to derail the case…

…The 2004 sexual harassment lawsuit contends that Kujundzic, who taught a popular class on vampires and signed his e-mails with a colon to symbolize Dracula bite marks, used his position as the student’s advisor to manipulate her into a series of sexual encounters. …

… The student said she felt coerced to engage in sex or risk having her academic career ruined. ..Derrida, who at the time was dying from pancreatic cancer, tried to intervene.

The bottom line?  Derrida was on the perp professor’s side and threatened not to allow UCLA his papers and archives unless they decided in the perp’s favor.  He died and now the mess is in court.

Uppity Biscuit on the word “cisgender”

The fact that you presume to re-name me shows that I am indeed not your oppressor. You presume to re-name women because in fact women are NOT your oppressor, and even you know as much.

Echidne on the impact the Ted Haggard situation has had on his former church

The megachurch founded by the Rev. Ted Haggard, who was fired over drug and sex allegations, has laid off 44 people amid falling income following the scandal.

The cuts announced during services Sunday amount to about 12 percent of the church’s work force, associate pastor Rob Brendle said.

Brendle estimated that church income has fallen 10 percent since the scandal last fall, forcing layoffs including pastoral staff, support staff and nursery workers.

Yawning Lion, eloquently as always on what love does to one’s life, creativity, work, relationships…

Does anyone else share this tendency of mine to get completely wrapped up in a new relationship, particularly if it’s a relationship of a sexual nature, and lose track of one’s own life? Does anyone else find it hard to maintain a balance between friendships, work, creative pursuits, solitude, and time with the object of your affections?

Yeah, I thought so. Most of the women I know struggle with this to some degree. We all swear that we will NOT be like that former friend of ours who called all the time and was always there for us until the new girlfriend came on the scene. Once the big, bad GF arrived, she’s gone. We all say, “I would NEVER do that. My friends/job/cat/basket-weaving/family is TOO IMPORTANT to ever be neglected like that.” Then a new girlfriend arrives on the scene, and – wait – where did you go? Hello? Hello? Are you out there?

And on lightening up sometimes

See, this is the moment where an upstanding radical feminist lesbian would have seized the opportunity to enlighten [the waitress] on the patriarchal programming inherent in referring to two loving lesbian women as “horny bitches” and generally set her straight about appropriate boundaries, respect for women, and avoidance of the embedded sexism in language. The two radical feminist lesbians in question, however (that would be me and Darlin’), let it slide. Yes, dear readers, I, the Supreme Definer of All Things Feminist, let something slide. I even thought it was pretty damn funny

The white male porn pimp slave master rides in to corral up his chattel (blog) for tattooing and redirecting. I wonder if his lily white Miss Anne knows what he does with his chattel back behind the shed. Probably so, they tend to keep their women in check. And I do hope the white boy offspring is watching so he can get some good training. Wouldn’t want him leaving the family business. Must keep things the way they have always been.

  4. Sorry about that.

    Anyway, from the other thread:

That ‘the secret’ nonsense has a frightening similarity to the ‘name it and claim it’ philosophy practised by Dominionst Christians. If you become sick or something happens to you, it’s because you didn’t believe in Jesus hard enough.

It makes sense in that instead of focusing on whatever’s bad about the situation you’re in, focus on what you need to resolve that situation, which can get you into a more productive space. However, a lot depends on what the situation is, and I don’t believe that ‘positive thinking’ prevents all bad things from happening to anyone.
