Celebration Time

Amazon Tribe of Heart Except Jenn

Above are five of the Six Daughters of the Amazon Tribe of Heart at our post-commencement party:  L to R, Emily, 18, Naomi, 16, Tiffany, 22,  Hosanna, 20,  Maggie, 9.  My oldest daughter, the lovely and amazing Jenni Wildflower, lives in Los Angeles and couldn’t be with us.  Sob.

My daughter, Tiffany Faith, above center, received her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology yesterday at commencement exercises at PLU in Tacoma.   She also was admitted to Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology and received the award for “Most Inspirational Woman Student”.

She did it and she deserves every last bit of the credit for it, because she did it for herself.   I couldn’t really help her as I’d have loved to be able to.  (The mother of one male student she knew, for instance, drove 60 miles each weekend to the school to do her son’s laundry, clean his room and bring him food.)  (I’m not joking.)  I could only hope to be there most of the times when Tiff called, to feed her when she came home, fill out my FAFSA every year, and hope and pray for the best for her.  She went to school on academic scholarships, grants, and loans, and worked all four years she attended school.  Things were hard for her.  She amazes me.

She is a fine radical feminist and will be attending grad school with the goal of becoming a child psychologist.    She hopes to go to Judy Grahn’s New College, a cutting edge feminist college.

Kick ass, my beautiful Tiffany Faith.  Never back down when you know you are on the side of what is right and true.  Change the  world.  Make revolution.  Speak truth to power.

I know that you will.  I love you.

  1. Congratulations, Tiffany!

Don’t feel bad, Heart. There’s a difference between support and infantilization. That boy’s mother didn’t do him any favors. He will have no idea how to look after himself on a daily basis.

  2. Congratulations Tiffany! I’m impressed! She must be a pillar of strengh as well as brilliant to overcome and achieve so much. You’re girls are lovely and look filled with joy. I remember reading about them in the magazine when they were just little girls and toddlers. I could never see how noncoercive parenting and unschooling could work, but I guess the proof is in the pudding, huh -chuckle-. You did a great job with them.

  9. I remember meeting Maggie at the Link Conference when she was about 2 years old. Hard to believe she looks so “grown up” now. Your daughters are so beautiful.
