Hullaballoo, Part III: A Deal You Can’t Refuse!

Buy this book through Amazon!  Right away!  The title is Seven Sisters of the Pleiades, and the author is Munya Andrews.

If you order this book through Amazon, save your receipt, and let the publisher, Spinifex Press — our one remaining independent radical feminist publisher — know by saving and submitting your receipt, Spinifex will send you any of their AMAZING books free of charge, shipping included.  The ISBN for this book is 1-876756-45-4.

We were actually supposed to do this yesterday, but I had it in my mind it was today, even though I read Stillwater’s comment in the Hullaballoo thread yesterday!  But the woman from Spinifex who spoke at the Hullaballoo said it would still help if we ordered the book from Amazon near this date, even if we couldn’t order at the exact time she specified.

Just think!  If you order this book you can get, absolutely free, shipping included:

Sexual Decoys, by Zillah Eisenstein, who continues her unforgiving critique of the U.S., charting its forays into wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as violations in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.

Making Sex Work, by Mary Lucille Sullivan about Australia’s failed experiment with legalized prostitution.

Honour– Crimes, Paradigms and Violence Against Women, by Lynn Welchman and Sarah Hassain about ‘honor” killings.

Or any of so many amazing radfem books!

  1. Bought it yesterday. I found a few sample pages online and it looks like a good book. I love reading transcribed oral histories from other families/cultures.

  2. Re: honor killings.

Fox News ran a documentary that was “banned from PBS” (their tabloid-ish tease for the show), called “Muslims against Jihad”–which was about the harassment of liberal Muslims by the fundamentalists. PBS originally funded it (meaning, WE funded it) and then refused to show it, since it comes off pretty extreme and anti-Muslim in places, and (supposedly) because one of the filmmakers is a conservative.

Fox ran it last week, with lots of commercials and commentary, self-righteously crowing that they would “let the people decide” (hoo boy! *roll eyes*). I therefore hesitate to plug it, but one segment was just SO good: all about the honor killings.

They explained the genesis of “honor killings” very well, so that everyone could understand. Actual cases were given as examples, women interviewed, etc. If they re-run it on Fox, check it out. Well worth seeing, for the women’s stories, alone.
