Beware “Quechup”

If you get an e-mail purporting to be from one of us radfems who wants to “friend” you to “Quechup,” the “social networking platform sweeping the globe,” report the e-mail and delete it.  It’s a phishing scheme.

Thanks to Angry for a Reason for the heads up.  I got this particular e-mail to three of my e-mail addresses, purporting that Ginmar wanted to friend me.  The e-mails were duly reported, duly deleted, just want to let all of you know.

If any of you receives ANYTHING purporting to be from one of us radical feminists, or supposedly sent to you at our request, and the e-mail address, person, or organization isn’t known to you, or we haven’t already let you know you’d be receiving it, e-mail us first to make sure it’s for real.    Don’t apologize for your caution, it’s completely correct!

  1. The good news is that it doesn’t actually appear to be phishing passwords, from what I found. However, it is invasive and is harvesting addresses from anyone who join’s entire address book.

  2. This is circulating beyond the blog world.

I got one of these from a woman I haven’t seen in years. I met her way back when I volunteered at an animal shelter.

Luckily for the other people in my address book, I was too busy to respond to it.

I’m deleting it the second I get back to work!

  4. Chloe, yes, that was me. I signed up for Facebook so I could do a search to see if I could find a page for the Lesbian 7. In the course of signing up, Facebook gives you a list of people who are on Facebook and also in your contacts and asks if you want to friend them, so I started clicking names, and then I thought, wait, I’m not actually making a page on Facebook!

So, no worries, and sorry for the worries!

  5. Oh good, I’m glad that was you. 🙂
Out of curiosity, who are the Lesbian 7?

  6. Oops. I got an invite from one of us! I joined it a couple of weeks ago. You may all now be getting fake invites from me. Please delete them. Sorry.
