Support Lesbian Feminist Filmmakers, Build Local Women’s Communities: Order and Show “The Gendercator”

In response to a question in one of the threads here, I e-mailed Catherine Crouch and asked her whether we could order The Gendercator from her on DVD.   She says that we can order it (on a DVD with three other films):

You can buy the dvd of four short films by sending $25 per copy to Catherine Crouch, 3640 Park Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46205, or through PayPal, same name and address, and they will notify me of payment and your address, and I’ll send it on. Yes, you can show it to a group of women or whomever but please pass the hat for the filmmaker if you have a group because I am in debt for the film.

Thanks,

Catherine

Just think if women all over the country bought a copy of this movie, invited a few friends, showed the film, passed the hat, and sent the proceeds along to Catherine Crouch.  Then, loan that same film out to the women who come to your place to see it so they can invite a few more women to see the film, pass the hat, and so on.  Keep doing that.  This would be simple grass roots activism, it would strengthen our local women’s communities,  and it would support Catherine Crouch.   There would be no middle-persons, no contracts, and nobody to stage protests or cancel showings.   There would be great discussion.   Some of us have already designated parts of our homes or living spaces as women’s spaces which are open to the women in our lives in various ways, and this would fit into that particular project perfectly!

I’m doing it for sure and will report back on how it goes!

You can read about the Gendercator here.

  1. Hey great! That was my question. Will order it from Catherine Crouch.🙂

  2. This is a wonderful idea! Feminists have virtually no unattacked presence in the pornified major media, and to progress we have to break out of the prescribed pathway of getting their permission to promote our artists. Your and other feminists’ voices on the web are the wildcard for us to spread the word and take such positive actions.

  3. I will send a check soon for this movie, and conduct a little fundraising of my own to send to Ms. Crouch.

THANKS Heart for helping this along!

  4. I’m sorry I missed the Boys, Men, Sons thread. I don’t always get to check for updates during the week. As the mom of a son, I’m really really interested in how other feminists deal.

  5. I’m lost…so what will happen to all that millions of dollars? The proceds that Catherine Crouch take in are not legally non-profit….she gets it all…no public tax records for charity work.

  6. I hope all that millions of dollars will go to Catherine Crouch! I’m sure she will use it in her ongoing activism and work on behalf of female persons.

That’s the beauty of the grass roots and grass roots activism. We still have the right, in this country, to gather with women in our own homes or wherever we want, to show films we make, to pass the hat and to send the money along.

  7. Are you truly the only lesbian feminist place on the internet?

I just got into it on Twisty’s forums. I was accused of being “anti-straight” which is apparently official forum policy? I was like, what?!

I was defending a poster who was trying to start a discussion about heterosexuality from a separatist perspective. Train wreck. Oy.

Sorry to hijack. I just had to whine.

  8. Hey, Edith!

Yeah. Seems like it might be time for a post about heterosexual privilege.

    Whine away!

Another good lesbian place is Maggie’s Metawatershed. I just discovered her recently and she’s the greates! Second Waver is also great, as is Teh Portly Dyke. Also Angry Dyke Me, but she doesn’t post too frequently. Feh-Muh-Nust, but kinda ditto, and of course, Amy’s Brain Today’s place, Feminist Reprise, but she doesn’t allow comments.

    Those come immediately to mind!

Sorry you got into it on Twisty’s boards. I gave up on going over there.

  9. And how could I omit Uppity Biscuit?

  10. Hey Edith! Good to see you, I just finished scanning through IBTP – hadn’t been there in months, and saw you there.

Like Heart, I gave up there months ago when I stumbled by accident into train-wrecking on a different radical topic. The mods gang up on radical posters. Shun the ‘Deviant’ – but on the bright side, it was that experience that indirectly led me *here*🙂

Anyway, as for Gendercator, can it be posted internationally? I can use PayPal, but would Catherine need more for postage?
