Megan Williams Update

pressconferencespeakers1.jpg

eeni posted an update to the Megan Williams thread saying that one person, a woman, has pled guilty to a hate crime in the horrific assaults on Megan Williams.  Five persons have been indicted for having raped and tortured her.

I went to the site of the attorney quoted in the link, Malik Shabazz of Black Lawyers for Justice, (above in the photo with Megan Williams and her mother) , which eeni provided, and found the following information as to how we can help and support Megan Williams:

Send checks or money orders to:
Welana Megan Williams Fund
Chase Bank

707 Virginia St.
Charleston W. VA 25301
All money goes directly to the Williams Family

On the Black Lawyers for Justice site, there is also a link to an Associated Press video in which Megan Williams tells her story.

  1. Thanks so much for the address, Heart! I sent Megan a card and a check. She’s been on my mind a lot. I wish so, so much that I could wave a magic wand and un-do what happened to her. And I wish I could afford to send her more than the meager amount I sent.😦
I’m so glad she has such loving and supportive family…

  4. That poor baby girl had to go through that pain and when ever I think about it I think of my daughter who is black and white, but this is exactly why I tell her she is not white your black because there are people in this world just like the white crackers in this story that dont care if your half white if you look black then its a wrap. I also wanted to add I am a full white female, but it is people like this that make me hate my race even more!

  5. Megan, remember you are a strong, bright, sweet and lovely young lady. You have done nothing wrong. I admire your strength and courage. My heat goes out to you and your family. Those 6 weak, evil, cowards wanted to destroy you – because of your strength you survived. Live your life – accomplish your goals.
A check is on the way.

  6. i don’t know if everyone has heard about dorothy dixon, but her story is horrifying to hear in the context of what happened to megan williams . . . dixon was a 29-year old mentally disabled black woman who was pregnant and had a 1-year-old son . . . she was living with a group of 6 people (the majority of whom were white) who imprisoned, tortured, and eventually killed her in a way hauntingly similar to what happened to megan . . .

i’ve just blogged about dorothy, but i feel like i have nothing to say. i just can’t come to terms with the never-ending stream of hideous atrocities that human beings are capable of committing against each other . . . and especially against women.
    😦
